Atakan Nalbant, born in Bursa, is congenitally blind and can perceive only light, color, and general shapes and sizes. Atakan explained that he began noticing problems with his vision when he started school and that his family worked hard to keep him from realizing his condition to not to make him upset. He began using assistive technologies at an early age to gain knowledge across a wide range of disciplines and topics.
Atakan began using computer technology for different purposes because, unlike his peers who mostly used computers to play games, gaming was not an accessible option for him. In this way, he managed to hone his basic coding and programming skills at the young age of 11 and began developing solutions to make the webpages he wanted to visit more accessible to him. While still a high school student, he was able to design and built websites for various institutions and organizations.
Eager to address the accessibility challenges he frequently encountered, Atakan developed Binclusive in 2024. Binclusive serves as a tool that helps organizations make their websites and mobile applications more accessible, a venture offering inclusive accessibility solutions for web and mobile applications, and an artificial intelligence solution that is thoroughly tested and approved by people with disabilities. Organizations first receive a comprehensive accessibility report through Binclusive and then use Binclusive's inclusive accessibility solutions to address the issues outlined in the report.
Organizations can integrate Binclusive into their websites and applications, allowing visitors from various disability groups to define accessibility settings customized to their needs. They can offer content to their users in line with accessibility standards, all thanks to Atakan’s social enterprise. Atakan has managed to eliminate barriers to accessibility for nearly 100,000 disabled individuals through the services he provided for more than 15 organizations.
Atakan Nalbant began his ambitious journey with this question: “Do you suffer a panic attack when you wish to visit a website or open a mobile application because you fear that you will not be able to use it?” He continues to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people from various disability groups by enabling them to access many websites and mobile applications.
