Ömer Madra, a radio programmer and writer, has launched Açık Radio (Open Radio) 20 years ago with 92 partners. Açık Radio tries to create awareness on issues such as social inequalities, freedom, democracy, gender equality and environmental pollution. Since its inception, radio continues its broadcasts with the motto: “Açık Radio is open to all the sounds, colors and vibrations of the universe.”
As the name implies, Açık Radio opens its doors to any social commentator. Until this day, 1.090 programmers from 21 different countries has contributed to more than 1.000 programs in this platform. So far, 20 thousand different guests have spoken into Açık Radio microphones.
Established by Ömer Madra and 92 partners, Açık Radio has reached hundreds of thousands of people to create social awareness and to contribute to the solution of the problems. It helped to the circulation of thousands of stories and ideas. It made a great difference in the field of civil society by allowing all alternative voices and voices of voiceless to be heard.
