Erdinç Erdem Bakkal, who was appointed as a science teacher in the Uludere district of Şırnak in 2020, started a movement to spark children's curiosity and interest in science education and astronomy. He organizes activities for kindergarten, primary and secondary school students, providing them with basic theoretical training as well as conducting sun and moon observation sessions.
Erdinç advocates that children should learn not only by listening to teachers but also by exploring and experimenting. He established a space class at Şenoba Üçtepe Secondary School, which was his first place of duty, with the support of individual donors. Stressing the importance of children’s access to such facilities so that they can do research, he frequently communicates with local governments for students to visit science centers in the surrounding provinces.
Erdinç has been working in the Research & Development unit of Uludere District Directorate of National Education since 2021. He voluntarily supports his students after working hours to help them increase their academic success and prepare for high school exams.
Touching the lives of nearly 3,000 children in 15 schools since the day he took office, Erdinç has expanded his efforts into other districts with the help of fellow teachers. His biggest dream is to include the surrounding villages in his work and hold science festivals. With his work, Erdinç Erdem Bakkal makes a difference in the lives of his students in Uludere, Şırnak.
