Youth Approaches to Health that works since 2004 as a part of Y-PEER (Youth Peer Education Network), became an association in 2015 with the need of institutionalizing works in Turkey under the leadership of Bulut Öncü, a human rights activist who lost his life in a traffic accident a while ago.
The Association mainly works on gender, youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, human rights and active citizenship. Besides awareness and lobbying activities in these issues, they also organize peer educations and provide a safe space to transfer information from a young person to another.
Almost 300 young peer trainers of the association tell sexual and reproductive health and rights to young people all over Turkey, inform them about sexually transmittable diseases and encourage to use youth friendly health services.
The Association also considers the special needs of certain youth groups and makes projects for young LGBTI+ persons and refugees.
Youth Approaches to Health Association aimed to provide young people to access information and have their own words about their rights. It reached thousands of young people with sexual health trainings and lobbying activities free from discrimination and prejudices, and it created a huge difference in their lives.
